I upgraded a client’s computer to Windows 8 today, and everything except for the card reader driver installed automatically. This was for a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop that shipped with Windows Vista.
On Dell’s support website, it only shows drivers for operating systems that the system would have shipped with, in this case, XP and 32-bit Vista. After a bit of research and trial-and-error, I was able to locate a driver that works perfectly for Windows 8 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit.
The 64-bit driver for the Ricoh R5C833 (R5C8xx) card reader can be found in Dell driver package R168331.exe. Click this link to visit that page. While the page says it is for Windows XP 64 and Vista 64, I can confirm that it also works with Windows 7 and Windows 8 64-bit.
Dell used this reader in several models, including the XPS line (XPS1330). Other manufacturers also used this reader and it can be found in several HP Pavillion models and several others.
